“Gadarene first began as an exploration into multiple personality disorder and demonic possession. It takes its name from the Bible story of the Gadarene Demon, which features Jesus meeting, and exorcising, a man possessed by a multitude demons, who calls himself Legion. Over the course of its development, Gadarene became less about crafting a character with multiple personalities or simply depicting a character possessed, and more about the line between psychological and religious diagnoses, and how blurred that line can be. Mary, Gadarene’s protagonist, is caught between worlds, unsure quite how to interpret what is happening in her mind or the world. Is she losing her mind, or is she having what could be called a religious experience? Gadarene seeks not to answer that question, but to give a glimpse of the world through Mary’s eyes.”

Neal Wilkinson (Writer/Director/Set Designer): Original works for theater include: Cascadia (2006): the chronicle of two girl’s fantastic journey through the Pacific Northwest; Otaku (2004): a negotiation with the pitfalls of Asian fetishism; Gumshoe (2003): the stream of consciousness of a would-be private-eye; Anomie (2002): a woman’s reckoning with love, city, and suicide; Byrne (2002): a first foray into demons and the Veiled Prophet tradition of St Louis; and Soola (a mystery) (2000): a circular investigation into the nature of crime. Recently, Neal completed a music video for Demander’s song Math, from their album Future Brite, and has begun work on a stage adaptation of his brother Jeff’s poem The Thirteenth Pillar, concerning events surrounding the death of Princess Diana, showing Section 1 of the piece last fall at Dixon Place as past of Little Theater.

Neal is currently a member of the design team of the Builders Association, for whom he has been the production manager since 2003. He toured with their production of Alladeen, developed and toured Super Vision and Continuous City, and is currently planning the remount of Jet Lag this fall and developing Road Trip (Grapes of Wrath) which will premiere in 2011. Prior to working with the Builders, Neal worked with Richard Maxwell on House, Showyladyslipper, Boxing 2000, Caveman, Drummer Wanted, and Joe. Neal was the resident set designer of the AndHow Theater Company from 2003-2009, for whom he designed numerous new plays. Most recently, Neal production managed New Georges/P73’s Creature (Ohio), and David Gordon’s Uncivil Wars (Montclair), and Target Margin’s Really Big Once, which is currently in performances at the Ontological Hysteric Theater. He is a graduate of Wesleyan University, where he studied sculpture and direction.

Jason Sebastian (Sound Designer/Composer/Technician) has been working freelance in film, theater and music for the last 10 years or so. Working most recently with Tara O’Con, Red Metal Mailbox and he composed the music for 3 Legged Dog’s Rods and Cables. Engineered and mixed slow/dynamite’s the mountains are our people, released on limited double vinyl, and he designed sound for Within Us at P.S. 122 for MVWorks. Lately he’s been touring with Radiohole and Young Jean Lee Theater Company.

Steven Maturno (Lighting Designer): Recent lighting designs: Saligia (Lehman Stages, NYC), Violence (Kosoko Performance Group, NYC), La Boheme (Amore Opera, NYC), and many collaborations with the schools of Theatre and Dance at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Kelly Anne Shaffer (Stage Manager) received her BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in May 2003 and has been a freelance stage manager for the last six and a half years.
