The Hamlet Collective
Hamlet

In residence July 13 - August 7, 2011
This is the Hamlet Collective, a merry band of rogue and peasant slaves.
Our passion for Shakespeare and our modern creative impulses have compelled us to dive ferociously into Shakespeare’s Hamlet from an entirely new perspective; and by entirely new, we mean completely out of order!
With utmost respect and awe for the text, we dare to explore the possibilities of performance and storytelling beyond the realm of conventional interpretation. If we start at the end of the piece, how does the text reveal itself differently? What if certain sequences happen in flashback on film, while other scenes happen in real time before us on stage? Questions of gender will also be our playground: What can we learn about character when gender is irrelevant?
This ain’t your mama’s Shakespeare, so don’t be afraid! Even if you’ve never read or seen Hamlet, you can join our “Collective” excursion into the greatest piece of dramatic literature ever penned.
