Theatre 4the People Presents: The October Festival at IRT Theater
This October, Theatre 4the People returns to the West Village with six bold performances that celebrate theatre for everyone. Expect gothic thrills, live music, fearless comedy, and stories that ask us to look closer at ourselves and at each other.
Glass Daughters EP Release (October 16th @ 7:30 PM): An intimate evening of indie acoustic music and theatrical storytelling set in a dreamlike world of light, shadow, and song. Directed and produced by Carol Hardern, with Anna Lies on bass, Jordan Smith on guitar, and Ryan Kenter on drums.
The Vampire by Alec Silberblatt: (October 30th & 31st @ 7:00 PM) A lonely young man accepts a sense of purpose from a mysterious stranger and descends into darkness in this pulpy horror story and potent metaphor for modern masculinity. Silberblatt’s A Tell-Tale Heart had a sold-out run at Pittsburgh Public Theater, and he received a Theatre Aspen Solo Flights Grant for this piece. Directed by Paul Edwards, Associate Director of Drift Off Broadway.
BECOMING SiRE by Sim the Sire: (October 23rd & 24th @ 8:00 PM) A raw, funny, vulnerable solo show that blends monologue, music, and memory to explore identity, family, and the process of becoming yourself. Sim the Sire is a Brooklyn actor, musician, and Meisner-trained multidisciplinary artist who invites audiences into a work that is still becoming.
Bad Egg by Kirsten Kilburn: (October 19th, 20th, and 25th @ 7:00 PM) Who’s the real villain, anyway? In this sly, funny, surprisingly tender comedy, a woman discovers her true villain origin story. Kilburn, a Canadian actor of stage and screen, performs her own words for the first time. Directed by Haley Rice of NBC/Peacock and Messy Stars Productions.
Lockdown C*ckdown by Ayla Xuân Chi: (October 23rd & 24th @ 6:00 PM) A horny twelve year old tries to lose their virginity during an active shooter situation, based on a true story. Chi is an Academy Nicholl quarterfinalist, the inaugural New Visions Fellow of National Queer Theatre and the Dramatists Guild, and has been published in American Theatre and Playbill.
My Name Is Rachel Corrie: (October 25th @ 2:00 PM, October 26th & 27th @ 7:00 PM) Frantic Theatre Company presents the true story of the American activist who died in 2003, told entirely through her own words. Moving, witty, heartbreaking, and inspiring. Ruah Uhlman makes her New York debut as Rachel. Directed by Emily Polcyn.
Six stories, six teams, one intimate West Village stage. Come for one show or make a night of several. Visit theatre4thepeople.org for tickets and times.
