THE WIFE will receive a full production at Access Gallery, December 2010.

Tommy Smith’s new play is a series of snapshot scenes involving a Hasidic Jewish couple whose firm grasp on their religious identity becomes diluted by a wild assortment of gentrifiers moving into their urban neighborhood. Equal parts black comedy and psychological drama, THE WIFE marks the second collaboration between Smith and director May Adrales.

After developing script of THE WIFE with Page 73 Productions and The Lark Play Center, the artistic team is now putting the play up on its feet in workshop at IRT. Fleshing out the play’s physical life over the course of a week, playwright Tommy Smith and director May Adrales with work the cast to present showing with minimal design elements for public viewing. After setting the artistic groundwork, the production team will work towards realizing a site-specific production in South Williamsburg, Brooklyn in November 2010.
